As we step into the last few months of the year, the air is filled with joy, lights, and celebrations. Yet, for many, this festive season can also bring an unwelcome companion: social anxiety.
Â
As a life coach, I’ve noticed that this time of year can intensify feelings of anxiety, especially in our vibrant Indian culture, where gatherings and celebrations are abundant.
Here are some insights to help you navigate this festive whirlwind with ease:
Â
Acknowledge Your Feelings: It’s perfectly normal to feel anxious about social gatherings. Recognising these feelings is the first step toward managing them.
Set Boundaries: Don’t feel obligated to attend every event. It’s okay to say no. Choose the gatherings that truly resonate with you and align with your comfort level.
Prepare Mentally: Before heading to an event, take a few moments to breathe deeply and visualise yourself enjoying the celebration. This mental rehearsal can help reduce anxiety.
Find Your Safe Space: During gatherings, if you start feeling overwhelmed, excuse yourself for a moment. Step outside, breathe, or find a quiet spot to regroup.
Practice Gratitude: Focus on the positive aspects of the season. Reflecting on what you’re grateful for can shift your mindset and help alleviate anxiety.
Remember, it’s okay to feel anxious during a time meant for joy. By prioritising your mental health and being intentional about your participation, you can enjoy the festivities in a way that feels right for you.
