3 Lessons I Learned (The Hard Way)

Let’s be honest. My 20s were a glorious, messy, sometimes questionable adventure. Don’t get me wrong, there were epic highs and unforgettable experiences. But looking back, there were also some major detours that could have been avoided with a little more, well, life coaching.

So, if I could hop in a time machine and hit the rewind button on my 20-something self, here are the three golden nuggets I’d shove into my younger, slightly reckless hand:

1. Listen to Your Gut:

Remember that time I went skydiving in flip flops because “it seemed spontaneous!” Yeah, let’s just say my gut wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels over that decision. Turns out, ignoring those internal warning signs often leads to situations best described as “interesting” and worst described as “requiring a trip to the doctor.”

Here’s the lesson: Your intuition is there for a reason. It’s your internal wisdom whispering about what feels right and what feels like a recipe for disaster. Learn to listen. It might save you from a metaphorical (or literal) broken ankle.

2. Don’t Confuse Busyness with Success:

Back in the day, I wore my exhaustion like a badge of honour. The more sleep-deprived and overloaded I looked, the more “important” I must have been, right? Wrong. Turns out, chronic busyness is a hamster wheel to nowhere, leaving you burnt out and resentful.

The key: Focus on productivity, not just activity. Learn to prioritise ruthlessly, delegate what you can, and automate the rest. Remember, a well-rested, focused you is a far more effective you.

3. Invest in Yourself (It’s the Best ROI You’ll Ever Get):

In my 20s, “self-care” meant listening to music and a questionable amount of pav bhaji.

Looking back, I wish I’d invested more in my physical and mental well-being. Healthy habits, learning new skills, and prioritising mental health — these are the foundations of a fulfilling life.

Here’s the takeaway: You are worthy of investment. Take a cooking class, learn a new language, or finally tackle that meditation app you downloaded three years ago. The more you invest in yourself, the more you’ll have to offer the world.

So there you have it. Three life lessons learned (mostly) the hard way. But hey, that’s what life coaching is all about — helping you avoid some of the more spectacular stumbles on your own journey.
